I did someone a favor once by agreeing to let them pay and not calling the police when they hit my z31 in the passenger fender. Damage didn't look major, but when I solicited estimates, nothing came in under 900 bucks. I called the jerk who hit me and he asked if I could keep looking! I responded that it was the cheapest repair out there. Anyway, to make a long story short, I wanted the car fixed asap, so I paid to get it done. He gave me about four hundred dollars and said he'd give me the rest when his student check came in a couple of weeks later. That was the last I ever heard from the guy. The address on his license (I checked it before agreeing not to call the cops) was a damn vacant lot - didn't exist. Of course, the college wouldn't release any info they had on him, if they had any, due to privacy concerns - and the fact that I had an fat 9mm in the car (jk). Anyway, I ended up eating most of the cost. I vowed never to go that route again. If I get anything more than a paint scratch, I'm calling the cops and filing it through their insurance. Can't trust them; the more people I meet, the more I like my dog.
